Post Treatment

1. Cleansing

  • Cleanse the skin twice daily with plain, lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, beginning the evening after the treatment. Use your hands and gentle patting motions. Do not rub, scrub, or use an exfoliant or skin brush such as a Clarisonic on the treated area.

 2. Moisturizer

  • Gentle hydration should be applied generously with clean hands over the treated area and reapplied whenever your skin feels dry. Do not apply any other products that you were not instructed to use. ZO Daily Power Defense is our recommended moisturizer. No actives such as Vitamin C or retinols for 7 days.

 3. Sunscreen

  • Sunscreen is a MUST and should be used daily beginning the day after treatment and used consistently. Use a sunscreen with Broadband UVA and UVB protection and a SPF of 30. Ensure to reapply during sun exposure. We recommend any of the ZO sunscreens.

4. Discomfort

  • For general post-treatment discomfort, an over-the-counter oral pain reliever might help, such as Tylenol if you have no contraindications to taking it. Additionally, antihistamines such as loratadine may be taken to aid in swelling. Avoid scratching and itching as scarring and pigmentation complications can occur.

5. Photo Diary

  • Take a photo of your face in good lighting for the first 4-5 days post-treatment to document your progress.

6. Anticipated Reactions BBL

-Feeling of Warmth

  • What to expect – The treated area may be extremely warm for 1-2 hours after the treatment. Warmth may continue for 12-24 hours after the treatment.
  • What to do – Cold compresses may provide comfort during this time. DO NOT USE ICE to cool the skin. A cool wet washcloth is sufficient.

 -Redness (Erythema)

  • What to expect – Redness is normal and expected.
  • What to do – Use gentle cleansers and keep your skin moisturized and out of the sun which will allow your skin time to heal and limit further stress on your skin.

-Pigment Peppering

  • Pigmentation/brown spots on skin may appear darker post treatment and will continue to darken, gaining the appearance of "pepper". Do not pick at the spots, they will naturally slough off. Remember pigmentation is best treated in a series of BBLs, recommended at a series of 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.

7 .MOXI Anticipated Reactions

-MENDs

  • What to expect – MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) will appear on the 2nd or 3rd day after treatment as tiny dark spots and bronzed appearance to the treated skin. They will have a sandpaper-like texture and are to be expected.
  • What to do – MENDs are part of the healing process where treated tissue is working its way out of your body as new fresh skin is regenerated. During this time, your skin will be very dry and feel like sandpaper before flaking and peeling off. Keep your skin well moisturized to support the healing process. If dryness and flaking is severe, you may use Do not pick at your skin.
  • You may use a thicker moisturizer if your skin feels very dehydrated or if you are experiencing severe flaking of your MENDs. We recommend ZO Soothing Ointment.

 8. Possible Side Effects:

-Swelling

  • What to expect – Swelling is common and expected immediately after treatment.
  • What to do – Use of a cold compress will help to relieve the swelling. If you can tolerate antihistamines such as loratadine, you may take them as directed to help decrease swelling. Rarely, excessive swelling may require a short burst of steroids. Contact the office via our text line if excessive swelling occurs.

9. General Tips

  • Use soft cloth and soft towels to avoid any scrubbing.
  • Make-up can typically be worn once the peeling process is complete.
  • When outside, protect your investment! Wear a hat post-treatment to avoid blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation, and hypopigmentation and to maintain your results!
  • When showering, avoid getting shampoo directly on the treated area while healing.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating while healing.

 10. Warnings
